August 11, Sunday Half day to Ashland! 12 PM to 8 PM
mile 1728 to mile 174 7 19 miles, not too shabby for a half day 🙂
– hiked alone although passed three people, 2 of whom I didn’t know.
– kind of blah hike today as far as scenery goes, just forest, some grassy hills
– lots of passes through private property
– Soda Mountain wilderness
– prettier at end of day with sunset views of valley and golden rolling hills
– okay campsite; glad I finally found one 🙂
Had a great time in Ashland and got majorly treated by love and hospitality from Joan and Rob who visited me there on their way to Seattle 🙂 Ate fabulously! Spaghetti AYCE dinner at Callahan’s and breakfast with amazing cowboy coffee at Callahan’s, donuts, and then lunch with Joan and Rob, then dinner at a fancy hotel restaurant called Larks in the Ashland Springs Hotel. So delicious and gourmet and very nice waitress. I had pan seared rockfish with fried green tomatoes and a delicious cold salad plus a curry cauliflower/ apple slaw appetizer, Clementine orange eyes Izze soda, plus chocolate Rocky Road Decadence cake for dessert! Unbelievable! So good. Thank you Joan and Rob.
I stayed in the Rodeway in my second night in Ashland with another Hiker named Britta; we split one room. Very nice girl. We supplied at Albertson’s for the stretch to Crater Lake. My box for Shelter Cove resort sent via UPS. Picked up three boxes at post office, one being Joan’s down pillow, but didn’t get Dawn and Roxanne’s care package. Received a very awesome gift from Evan and Jenn, a thermarest neoair xlight advantage sleeping pad! Woo hoo!
Bought a few new things to finish a trip out: New shoes, Brook’s Cascadia size 12! Socks, three pair one smart wool light two Injinji toes. New platypus to replace my leaky one; new trekking pole tips; new spork, Sea to Summit; Gu and honey stinger waffles; new super feet inserts. Washed clothes, sent my mom a birthday card, updated my resume on Rob’s computer and sent to Frazier, ordered new dirty girl gators, and cut Thermarest (old one) in half.
Lots of stuff went to Hiker box and some to Joan mail out. So happy to spend time with Joan and Rob. I really adore them and glad we are friends. Ashland was so cute , Very cool vibe downtown. kind of wished I spent another day but didn’t have any more dollars or time. Need to get hiking! Excited for Crater Lake. Really miss being with Frazier 😦 Shoes feel pretty good but a bit sore from new shape; could go one half size larger I think.
[Note from transcriber: Rob and I really got a kick out of providing some trail magic for Jamie in Ashland; we are in awe of her!]
