July 21

Today was pretty great

Halfway at 5pm
Only hours behind osprey and someday
1pint and gdub drama
Ran into Chosen 1 messenger
Off trail springs
Camped at soldier creek with 5 sectioners and same group from last night
Great views of lassen
Almost missed a water spot
Got an apple and banana
Cell reception 🙂
Washed feet at night
2 dinners
Chester town tomorrow
27.6 miles
14 miles by lunch!
Listened to tunes all day
Hiked alone–felt good!
Halfway done baby!!
Realized Gdub likes me–which makes hiking with him very awkward. Have to tell him to stop flirting with me, or I will just ‘lose’ him on the trail (hike faster or slower). :/
Lots of flies and ants today.

I remember feeling a mix of emotions on this day. I was very happy to have made it this far, obviously, and stoked to be surrounded by lots of trail friends. BUT, it was a realization that I still have A LOT of trail left to complete, and it will be hard. Oregon, I hear is easier, and provides a sort of nice break in the trail, maybe to compensate for the obstacles ahead in Washington (rain, cold weather, and climbing passes again). So, as I approached the halfway marker, I was happy and a bit tired, mentally. Made it to a great campsite though, with a nice COLD creek, and friends. G-dub, 1-pint, and 5 guys that we met earlier in the day who are section hiking a stretch of Oregon together. Super cool and funny, and tomorrow is a reward day: the town of Chester! So excited for this town because we heard it was cute, quaint, cheap, and equipped with a PCT-loving dentist’s office who gives thru-hikers free floss, a toothbrush, and voucher to eat dinner at a local restaurant for FREE! Sweet!
