Got into Burney, ca today around 2pm. Made it to the hwy at 1241pm but had to spend 45mins hitching before a nice local woman gave me and another hiker namedRazor a ride to town (7.5 miles). I had to come into town to get my 2 resupply boxes and ship one ahead. But alas, I got lured into staying in town for the night by my stomach and my extremely dirty body. Razor wanted a shower too, so we split the cost of a room. It’s just easier to organize and get cleaned up that way. I will make up the 8 miles I missed today this coming week. Plus, the hat creek rimwas pretty hot and the soil was primarily red and orange clay and silt; meaning it was everywhere! Sooooooo dirty! And my back chafe and toe blister could use some drying out. Plus I think I may have enough food to skip the zero I was gonna take in mt. Shasta. Still need shoes though. Hmmm.
Anyway, the trail since Chester has been relatively easy, very dry, and through volcanic terrain. Lassen ntnl park was not very scenic since the pct only goes thru the burned parts 😦 but I did get to see one geyser and a boiling spring lake 🙂 The Hat creek rim was actually pretty cool, in my opinion. Even though it was hot and dry, it was scenic and interesting. Lots of oaks and pines in the last half and lots of lava. Oh and cows. Pretty cool. And there were 4 water caches to break up the 30 dry miles. And I got to be cooled off by a short afternoon thunderstorm! Very nice.
Next stop is Shasta but I think I will zero in Etna. Thanks to all! I love and miss you!
