Reached the end of this leg of PCT tonight!

Woohoo! I made it to oak creek by 7 tonight which means I did 17 miles today. I even got a really late start because I slept in due to being constantly woken by the ferocious winds last night. Thankfully my tent made it and the morning was a bit calmer. So I had a very leisurely morning eating breakfast, cleaning my dirty self with glorious creek water and filtering drinking water for the day. I swear that creek was like magic–i felt like it didn’t belong there since it was so dry all around it. Anyway it was amazing. Oh and while I was filtering my water at the stream I got to observe a sphinx moth drinking nectar from a wallflower a foot away! I have never seen them use their crazily long and flexible proboscis before! So cool!

The rest of the day consisted of lots of breaks to enjoy the beautiful Mojave wildflowers that are blooming, pinyon juniper woodland, a burned area and more windmills. Oh and there was a surprise water cache with Adirondack chairs, a trash bag and a log book. They said they put it there because the water at oak creek was polluted and nasty. They were right! I would never try to filter the water here. Its a stagnant cess pool like pond. Ewww. So I was grateful for the cache. And the chair.

My body definitely hurt today. I have one blister that I got yesterday and surprisingly it didn’t pop today. And its in a position where it doesn’t hurt much. Yay me!

Tonight I am camped out at oak creek and tomorrow I just have to walk 9.2 mi on the rd. The table here has a list of a bunch of trail angels that are willing to give rides into town so I might call one of them. Man they are making this too easy! Lol.

Hopefully I can sleep more tonight. I just ate the best backpacker meal I’ve had yet tonight. I wish I had another one! It is outdoor herbivore sunny sunflower salad. Its got beans in it and its spicy and crunchy and full of flavor. And its no cook just add water. Yumm!

So I think I have had a great practice week. Hard but not so hard that I want to cry and quit. But I do want to go home to see everyone and rest before the real thing. Well off to sleep. Apologies for the bad grammar. I hate typing on a cell phone. Goodnight!

Congratulations Jamie. You are now officially a trekker. I always knew you had it in you. I am already hooked on reading your posts and am looking forward to more. On to the beginning!

    • Thanks Caroline! I think I can do this. My biggest challenges will the time away from home and everyone I love and eating enough to maintain my body weight. My family thinks I’m nuts. Literally. But im glad that so many others like you are supportive. It makes it a lot easier 🙂
